Welcome to the Red Kite Runners. Our friendly and supportive club offers inclusive, social, non-competitive running and walking sessions.
Our sessions
Our sessions take place along the beautiful Derwent Walk Country Park throughout the year. It’s free to join, all we ask is for a donation of 50p per session to cover club costs.
We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm from Swalwell Juniors Football Club. We regularly offer couch to 5k courses for those looking to get into running.

40 or 60 Minute runs
Termed the 20/20 and The Hour these ‘go at your own pace’ sessions are our bread and butter. Runners head out on an agreed route running for 20 or 30 minutes respectively. We then turn around and run back to the car park arriving at the same time for chats and stretches.
Want to work on your PB? Well the pace improvement session is for you. A structured workout aiming to enhance a runner’s speed and/0r endurance. These sessions help runners improve their ability to maintain a faster pace over a given distance using techniques such as interval training and hill repeats.
Want to get lost in the woods or go on an adventure? Well Thursday Trail Running is for you. Hilly, off piste, mud, roots and shoots and plenty breaks to check we are not like…. proper lost, our trail running session is awesome.
Couch to 5K (C25K) is a popular running program designed to help beginners transition from a sedentary lifestyle to running a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) distance in about 6 weeks. It was created by Josh Clark in 1996 to encourage new runners to start running in a gradual and structured way. The program involves 2 workouts per week, with each session combining walking and running intervals that progressively build up the runner’s stamina and endurance. Upon completion of the course you will run your first marshalled competitive 5k with other C25kers.

Fancy a Stroll?
Even if you don’t fancy working up a sweat you can still come along for a little human interaction and a leg stretch with our walking group. Whether you’re not quite ready for the running part just yet, or maybe you are a regular runner who is injured and can’t run, these sessions are for everybody. As with all our sessions, pooches welcome.
The last session of each month we meet at a local pub, have a run and then get together for a post run pint. We also regularly use these sessions to collect for local charities or to celebrate events that mean something to us and our members. Twice a year we undertake a foodbank run where we collect donations for our local foodbank and delivery them during a run, giving something back to the community we serve.
